Meet Katja Engel-Hughes

Therapist for women, children, and parents

Hi, I'm Katja Engel-Hughes.

I’m a licensed psychotherapist serving women, children, and families in Maryland.

I help women navigate life transitions, relationships, and rediscover a sense of self.

I also specialize in supporting children who struggle with anxiety, big emotions, or behavioral challenges.

My approach blends insight and action—helping clients build emotional safety, confidence, and resilience. Whether in individual or family work, I provide a calm, compassionate space where real change can take root.

Why I Do This Work

I know how powerful it is to feel truly seen and supported.
My own journey through motherhood, career changes, and healing has shown me how deeply our emotional worlds shape every part of life. I believe that growth and connection happen when we have space to slow down, listen, and understand what’s really going on beneath the surface.

With women, I help untangle patterns of overgiving and self-doubt, so they can move toward balance, clarity, and grounded confidence.

With children and families, I focus on helping kids express what they feel, guiding parents to better understand and support their child’s emotional world.

Whether I’m sitting with a woman rediscovering her voice or a child learning to feel safe in their body, my goal is the same—to create a space where healing feels possible and people feel more like themselves.
